Electrical home appliances can be dangerous if not handled properly!

The changing world has brought us to a simpler way of living! Electrical appliances are the product of modernization. They proved to be one of the biggest boons to mankind. Electrical appliances and devices have made life uncomplicated and effortless. In today’s world is it impossible to do without them. Kitchen appliances in specific are a great way to reduce time and labor put into cooking. Microwave, Oven, toaster, and electric kettle are some common electrical appliances found in every kitchen. These appliances, as we all know are powered by electricity. The use of electricity can pose to be risky if not done the right way. Therefore we need to be careful and safe around these appliances. 

Let’s look into different safety aspects to keep in mind while using electrical appliances in the kitchen. 

The risk of water around electrical appliances.

Water is a good conductor of electricity; this simply means that it poses the greatest risk for us while using electric powered appliances. Water is something that cannot be avoided in our kitchens. While using electrical appliances, do not touch them with wet hands. It is very easy to get water over our appliances since it is in the kitchen. Wipe it dry if you get any water over it. 

Unplug when not in use.

This is a safe practice to follow, especially if you have children around. Unmonitored plug always carries some risk. It is always better to keep them unplugged while not in use. 

Check for worn-out power cords

Worn out, damaged power cords are risky. They can spark or even cause greater mishaps. The best thing to do is to check for your power cords at regular intervals and replace them when needed.  

Safety with power points

Power points/outlets exhibit electricity, sticking fingers, metal objects or any such is highly dangerous. This is a big no! If you have children around the house, it is best to keep it sealed while not in use. 

Microwave safety

A microwave is a handy appliance to have in the kitchen. It makes cooking just a click away. But safety is important; avoid opening the microwave when it is turned on. Never stick your hand in the microwave when it is running. Use an oven mitt while you are handling hot dishes.

Overloading power outlet

When you overload a power outlet to more than its capacity, it will cause a fire. It will not just burn out your appliance but also will cause danger to your family.

Childproofing electrical appliance

This is very important if you have children in your home; childproofing is a must. Childproofing will ensure the safety of children even if they come in contact with the appliances. These are a few general measures to be followed while you are using electrical appliances in your homes.
